Still attached to the underside of the ship.

So this is in the vicinity of the turbine room where Titanic’s side curved up and around what they call the turn turn of the BGE.

Um, you can actually just make out a pair of those circulating pumps still intact.

These have been filmed before, but again, we have a map, you know, we have a really forensic map now where we can actually compare where these pieces of the of the ship are and um their scale.

It’s very very interesting.

The pumps were, you know, part of Titanic’s auxiliary steam layout, I suppose, or steam system.

They were basically their own miniature steam engine.

So, you had two main pumps and two to two to back up to auxiliary pumps.

They also had a special double feature.

They could actually pump water from the ship’s engine room or from the turbine rooms.

And so when Captain Smith was talking about uh using the pumps to buy time, you know, he’s talking about using the pumps to get water out of the ship, he’s talking about this kind of machinery.

He’s talking about using the ships um circulating pumps to run lines forward, which is what they did.

They cracked the watertight doors some, ran hoses forward into the boiler rooms and attached them to the pumps to try and um get as much water out as they could.

It was still a losing battle, you know, despite the fact these fairly powerful units had their own steam engines, which still wasn’t enough.

They weren’t able to get enough water over the side.

They probably bought Titanic um a matter of minutes, but it was enough that more people uh were able to survive.

So, it was still very, very worthy in effort, but it is very interesting to see those pumps just sitting there ripped out.

Uh again, just unbelievable force that it takes to do that.

Just to to put this in perspective again, we do see another part of Titanic’s double bottom just over there on the left, the shell plating there.

Um again, that is 6 feet tall.

So, this is a big big big piece of the ship.

It’s been ripped off whole piece whole meal like that.

It’s just unreal.

This is a really interesting piece of debris because of how recognizable it is and how front and center it is.

So, if we just come over the um the the tear zone of the the stern section of the ship, we’re going to see a tangle of wires uh and a just a big old reel with cables coming off it.

This is a fairly important piece of Titanic’s equipment.

Titanic had a couple of these actually.

There was one all the way forward at the very tip of the bow.

This is quite a thick piece of uh back then they they called it steel rope.

It’s basically a cable, right? This is designed for towing Titanic.

She ever becomes disabled or if she ever has to tow something else.

This piece of steel rope again like that thick at least um is designed to be reeled off.

this cable reel and attached to a ship on the other end.

What’s interesting is you can actually see on the on the bottom right the eyelet from the end of the cable reel that would ostensibly been passed to another ship uh and used to tow Titanic it was disabled or tow for Titanic to tow another ship.

Titanic had a couple of these.

Um Titanic had a few of these.

Probably the beest and most impressive was located forward at where there’s like the front of the ship.

There’s like a little eye cutout that was used for for towing.

This one presumably was one of the ones that was located under a cover on the uh the poop deck at the stern of the ship.

So, this has just come off in one piece.

And uh for having fallen uh 4 km or 2 and a bit miles to the ocean floor, it hasn’t really unraveled a whole lot.

It’s kept its shape, which is quite impressive.

But what’s cool is we can actually still make out the end of the the um steel wire there that would have been used to secure this this reel to another ship.

They would have wrapped it around the um the bolards and a capston and then you know pulled the ship along.

That’s pretty heavy duty piece of uh piece of equipment right there.

You still make out the individual strands of the steel.

Hey, like how impressive is this? E like they were able to capture this degree of detail.

It’s unendingly cool.

So, we’re flying in now from the stern sections port side.

We’re just going to fly over the the kind of tangle of the ship’s bottom that we were talking about just now with the circulating pumps.

You can see those just on the bottom left going out of view.

Now, bits of main steam line and piping.

Here we see more of those davits and a crane.

There’s one of the ship’s cranes on our on the right hand side of our screen.

But all these davs are still attached to their bases just like the other one we were looking at earlier.

and they’re all still cranked out, swung out to the angle they were at when they were lowering boats on the night of the sinking.

This one um that we’re looking at right now, actually still see that it’s got one of the blocks, the wooden blocks that were used to, um run the the lines, basically the pulleys to um to lower the boats still attached to the tip of the dambit there.

It looks like that one’s got one as well.

Amazing.

Now, we’re way off on the port side of the debris field, but we’re taking a look at the ship’s funnel top and the set of whistles, which is still there.

Just amazing.

Well, two of them are still there.

Incredible.

You know, when When Titanic came to a stop, they had a full head of steam that had been built up because she was moving at full speed and all, you know, all that steam had to go somewhere because the engines have stopped now.

So, it was vented through that big central pipe that you you see in front of us.

Um, what’s really interesting about this this funnel top here is that the lower half or the lower 3/4 of the funnel are gone, you know, and so probably the funnel actually disintegrated either in the break up or on its way down to the to the ocean floor that you know that it coincides really neatly with where the waist pipe has also ripped off.

So, it seems to me this is like the entire just the black part of one of the ship’s funnels that’s been ripped off somehow um during the violence of the sinking or the descent to the ocean floor.

It’s been enough to knock off, you know, one of the ship’s whistles, unless it was one of the ones that was recovered, but it looks to me like uh two of the whistles are still there.

One of them is missing.

And we get a really nice view of there.

Look at that.

Wow.

Haunting stuff.

Well, to be honest with you, I could talk about this all day and all night.

But I hope that gives you some kind of brief, well, it’s been an hour, but brief overview of the uh the layout of the debris field around the Stern section.

It’s very, very captivating really.

I mean, again, I always talk about this stuff because they they’re so impressive, but the work Mellin have done to to capture the Stern section in this degree of fidelity and detail is is really remarkable.

I don’t think anyone else is doing this.

I don’t think anyone else is capable of doing this.
